A few months ago I jumped on to a little game from a company called Riot Games. This game was called Legends Of Runeterra. Long story short, Legends Of Runeterra (L.O.R) is a digital strategy card game similar to the likes of Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, or Hearthstone. The games been enjoyed by many in it's open beta form and officially leaves beta today, April 28th. And with this patch 1.0 not only comes a new region of cards, Bilgewater. But it starts the launch of the game on mobile. Which is expected to roll out sometime between today and the 30th. So if you're not playing L.O.R and you're a strategy card game enthusiast, now is the time to start.
The mobile version of the game will drop on both iOS and the better OS, Android. And Riot states that the App should hit stores shortly after the Patch is live on PC . So really it should be coming in any moment now, though Riot has stated that it may take up to 48 hours to see the game available in all regions. And the anticipation is killing me.
Moving on from there, let's talk about what else is new. And after 3 fun months of the same champions and cards. We're finally getting a new set of cards and a ton of new champs. 11 of them to be exact. Yea, you read that right and it's not a typo. In case you've been living under a rock, or too busy playing to follow L.O.R's twitter. They are dropping 11 new champions on us, 5 of which coming from the new region of Bilgewater. Couple all of this in with 120+ new cards, 6 new keywords, highly asked for new emotes, updated region roads, and 2 new cosmetic guardians. One of which being a Monkey! A gun smoke Monkey. And you've got not only a ton of new things to do and ways to play. But a ton of awesome ways to stand out and truly make your deck, YOUR deck (assuming you didn't just copy and pastes MegaMogwai's). Oh and did I mention they added new card backs so you can customize that as well...because they did. Just freaking awesome.
And speaking of new ways to strategize Bilgewater promises to change the game with some of the most interesting keywords I've ever seen in a card game. Like Attune. Cards with this refill a single mana when played. Or Deep, a +3/+3 buff to cards carry that attribute that kicks in when your deck is down to 15 or less cards. Like what!? That's an insane mechanic. You also have other new ones like Scout, Vulnerable, Plunder and Toss. Another interesting mechanic in where you discard x amount of non champion cards from the bottom of your deck to play cards featuring the Toss keyword. This is going to shake up the current meta, and really bring some interesting creativity to the field.
Outside of new regions, cards, customizations, and keywords Patch 1.0 also brings with it a few game play changes as well. Like, and tell us how you feel about this one on the comments below. But the game changer that having a full board no longer prevents you from playing new followers or champions. You can simply destroy a unit you no longer want, and play one that's a bit more useful to the situation. Now, last breath effects will not trigger for any cards destroyed in this manner, but that move still seems like an odd one to me. Riot, claims they made the change so that "games will retain more interesting decisions even late into the game". But I think having a locked board board forces us to make MORE interesting decisions because it forces me to think moves ahead and not full by field with trash. If I can just play cards with no regard for limits then I dunno. I've lost many again because my filed had one too many followers that couldn't block and I had no room to to play some. This changes all of that. So I really don't know how I feel about it. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
Additionally they made changes to the expedition game mode, added per-deck load outs, and will be resetting ranks for the season. What this means if that they will be rewarding rank rewards for the Beta Season, dropping everyone down but a specified amount of LP, and locking Ranked Que for 24hrs. Launching the Season of the Plunder on the 29th at 10 am. And I believe that's to allow new comers playing on mobile an opportunity to catch up and get acquainted.
And as with all games mobile they wanted to incentivize you to log in. So in order to do so, Riot is giving players, old and new, a reward everyday you log on for the first 7 days. And on day 7 you'll get a brand new deck and two duplicate Champions. Ashe if I'm not mistaken. So that's a cool little bonus and it's nice to see that they've extended this system to players past as well. Not just new comers.
Riot has pretty much done everything right with this card game so far and it looks like they have no intention on slowing down. But what do you expect from the team that brought you League of Legends. For the full list of updates and cards check out their website. The Rising Tide expansion drops today.
